In August, I was in a car accident, wearing a suit belt. The airbag went off. I hit the airbag hard - I was taken to the nearest trauma ER. The ER doctors informed me that I had broken my spine, a bust fractured L1 to be exact.
The next 12 hours were intense. I was scared. I had many tests, a CT scan and MRI to determine if I would need immediate surgery. I waited to speak to the surgeon. It was all terrifying. But…… There was something else
There was gratitude
Gratitude - for being alive
Gratitude - to be able to move my fingers and toes
Gratitude - knowing that I wasn’t paralyzed.
Gratitude - knowing that even if I had surgery that night, I would be okay.
Gratitude for all of the very physical work I have been doing for the past 12 months. My body is strong and will support me in the months ahead in recovery from this injury. I am surrounded by loving support and 24 hour care from my family.
